Controlling Mosquitoes Indoors And Outdoors

Mosquitoes are one of the most annoying problems of spring and summer, and you should take steps to keep them out of your house and outdoor living space. However, sometimes they still manage to get inside these places and cause trouble. Keeping mosquitoes from ruining your warm weather enjoyment means that you must take steps to make your home and yard inhospitable to them. Here are a few tips on how to reduce and eliminate the chance that mosquitoes will invade your inside or outside living areas.

Keep Your Home Screened

All of the windows in your home that can be opened should have a dense screen over them. If any of those screens have holes, even small ones, then make sure they are repaired as soon as possible. If your home is in a particularly humid or marshy area, then you may also want to consider screening your patio space as well.

Reduce Standing Water

Mosquitoes love standing water, and even ridiculously small amounts of water are ample breeding grounds. If you don't do anything else to prevent mosquitoes, removing standing water should be the main priority in your home's mosquito control plan. Do not keep any standing water around your home or yard.

Empty out any buckets, containers, and pools if you aren't using them. If you have a bird bath, check, empty, and safely clean it on a regular basis.

Even letting your gutters go uncleared, especially after a rainy period, can make them a breeding ground. If you have an artificial pond, try putting in a pump to gently agitate the water to make it less desirable to mosquitoes.

Light Candles With Essential Oils

Burning candles with essential oils, such as peppermint and citronella, can help deter mosquitoes. There are special candles available on the market made specifically for mosquito control. They work best for smaller spaces such as near your outdoor gathering space.

For best results, use them in an area with good air flow so that their scents are evenly distributed. Make sure to only burn them when you are actually using the area and put them out when you are done.

Mosquitoes are not only bothersome, but they can also affect your health and just make using an area miserable. Taking the steps listed above will help control and reduce the mosquitoes around and inside your home.

However, if you have a severe problem with mosquitoes, or you have taken the steps above and the situation is still bad, then contact a pest control company such as Swat Bug Killers. They can treat the existing condition, as well as point out problems that you may have missed for better control in the future.

About Me

Controlling Pets Indoors

Although it might seem easy to keep bugs from infiltrating your home, it is easier said than done. I have always been a stickler for cleanliness, but months ago I realized that there were some serious issues with our house. We started realizing that the paint was bubbling in some places and the floors were exceptionally squeaky, so we started doing a little digging to discover the source of the issue. We realized that we had termites, so we turned to a team for help. They came through, explained the tenting process, and got started. Find out more about pest control on this website.
